A shame for the boy, never really enjoyed watching him though. It always irked me how recently he was referred to as part of the 'big 4' when the other 3 have all got double figures in terms of majors. He was clearly always outside their level but above in terms of consistency Cilic and Wraninka and Del Potro.

Shame, it all seemed to go downhill after he started waving that Scottish flag around at Wimbledon.

Re: Andy Murray retiring
I really felt for him this morning when I saw the press conference. I had been expecting it to be honest. To compete at the top against the other top top players you have to be 100% in form and 100% fit. He was never going to be able to get back to that level after what he has been through. As for all the usual horrible comments about him crying etc I for one complettey respect him for what he acheived and to see a British player win Wimbledon was always something i wanted to see whilst growing up so that was a massive acheivement. He was in an era of an unusually exceptional talents which makes his acheivements even more remarkable. He obviously loves tennis and it has been his life so to have to admit to yourself you are through and then speak to the world about it must be soul destroying. I for one will miss him on court but always hold in the highest esteem.

Have a heart , Northern

Imagine if you had to give up bumming rugby players on Rochford Pier under the pretext of taking your dog for a walk?
Imagine how upset YOU would be

Re: Andy Murray retiring
Maudlin Murray needs to be told to get things in perspective. He's known about this issue for months, so to start blubbing at a press conference marks him down as being pretty pathetic.
He's had a great career and made himself a very wealthy young man (approx £60 mill) so he's still got a great life ahead of him.

He says he might have to have his hip resurfaced now. Well I had that done in my mid-fifties and it hasn't stopped me doing stuff. For a fit young guy he'll still be able to play tennis, just not at the very top level. Perhaps he'll end up on the veterans tour, if he wants to.

All I can hope is that he doesn't inflict his monotone dirge on us each year at Wimbledon.

Soldo, no offence but playing lower league football isn't the same as being a former No.1 in the world tennis player with 3 major championship trophies to your name.

Re: Andy Murray retiring
In terms of what he's achieved he's probably the best British Sportsman of all time. I'm gutted for him.
